Universities prepare graduates for the industry and do research work which should ultimately help the relevant industry. Bangladesh, as a country, has set up its goal to be a developed state by 2041 where massive industrialization is a priority. But, there is a big gap between universities and industry, commonly known as the “Industry-Academia gap”, in terms of mutual roles and understanding of each other. The need for industrial collaboration of the universities is vital to minimize the gaps.
The School of Engineering, Technology & Sciences (SETS) of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) has set up the “Office of Industrial Relations” to increase its efforts for industry collaborations. The purpose of the “Office of Industrial Relations” is to develop and establish a center that would proactively establish relations with the industry. Primarily the Industrial Relations Office will look for industry feedback and guidance regarding SETS graduates to see the area for improvements for the current students. The Office will initiate to build up collaborations for joint academic and research projects through MoU & MoA with relevant industrial stakeholders and companies. The mission of the Office of the Industrial Relations are:
● Building industry-academia partnerships to support growth and development.
● Arranging joint industrial research and innovation projects.
● Collaborating to prepare graduates to meet the needs of the industry.
The office has been set us as a project under the Sponsored Research Project initiatives of IUB where Professor Dr. Yousuf M. Islam, Dean, SETS (ymislam@iub.edu.bd) is the PI and Dr. Md. Kafiul Islam, Associate Professor, EEE (kafiul_islam@iub.edu.bd); Dr. Mustafa Habib Chowdhury, Associate Professor, EEE (mchowdhury@iub.edu.bd); Dr. A K M Mahbubur Rahman, Assistant Professor, CSE (akmmrahman@iub.edu.bd) and Mr. Saurav Das, R&D Officer, SETS (saurav@iub.edu.bd) are Co-PIs.
