Founded in 1993, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) is one of the oldest and leading private universities in Bangladesh where academic excellence is a tradition, teaching a passion and lifelong learning a habit. IUB currently has more than 9,800 undergraduate and graduate students and over 13,700 alumni. The students of IUB experience an exciting academic life with copious opportunities to explore and nurture their innate talent.
Live in Field Experience (LFE) is a signature course of IUB. It allows IUB students, most of whom come from urban settings, to have an immersive experience of everyday life in rural Bangladesh. Unique in Bangladesh, the overarching idea, which owes its roots to some of the leading social thinkers of this region, is to bridge the gap in knowledge that an urban student has about their rural counterparts. As part of the LFE, which is a mandatory course, small groups of students (usually 5-10, mix of male and female, and English and Bangla medium backgrounds) spend a certain amount of time at different locations in Bangladesh and experience life in the fields.
High-level delegation from Western Australia visits IUB

A high-level delegation from Western Australia (WA) comprising representatives from the state government and five universities in the region visited IUB on May 31, 2023. During the visit, the delegation took part in discussions with the IUB Trustees, academics and senior management. The WA delegation familiarized the hosts with the well-endowed, eclectic profile of their state, and broadly introduced the opportunities for collaboration through research, mobility, TNE and joint PHDs.
The Aussie delegation was led by renowned Bangladeshi-Australian scholar Prof. Amit Chakma, Vice Chancellor of the University of Western Australia. Robyn Robb, Director of International Education, Department of Jobs, Training, Science and Innovation, Western Australia; David Harrison, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Notre Dame; Marko Remes, Dean of Edith Cowan University; Dr Abhijit Mukherjee, Dean of Curtin University; Arjun Singh, Regional Manager of Murdoch University, spoke at the event. The visit was facilitated by Ms. Nashid Chowdhury, Investment & Trade Commissioner, India-Gulf of the Government of Western Australia. The planned chief of delegation, Hon'ble Minister David Templeman, Minister for Culture and the Arts, Local Government, International Education, and Heritage, Government of Western Australia had to regret at the last minute.
