Founded in 1993, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) is one of the oldest and leading private universities in Bangladesh where academic excellence is a tradition, teaching a passion and lifelong learning a habit. IUB currently has more than 9,800 undergraduate and graduate students and over 13,700 alumni. The students of IUB experience an exciting academic life with copious opportunities to explore and nurture their innate talent.
Live in Field Experience (LFE) is a signature course of IUB. It allows IUB students, most of whom come from urban settings, to have an immersive experience of everyday life in rural Bangladesh. Unique in Bangladesh, the overarching idea, which owes its roots to some of the leading social thinkers of this region, is to bridge the gap in knowledge that an urban student has about their rural counterparts. As part of the LFE, which is a mandatory course, small groups of students (usually 5-10, mix of male and female, and English and Bangla medium backgrounds) spend a certain amount of time at different locations in Bangladesh and experience life in the fields.
Rifat, Masuda and Zubair become champions in Intra-IUB Table Tennis Tournament 2023

Md. Rifat Mahmud Sabbir, Masuda Alam Moutushi and Mohammad Zubair Khan have become champions in Men’s Singles, Unseeded Women’s Singles and Unseeded Men’s Singles categories in the Intra-IUB Table Tennis Tournament 2023.
The one-day competition, organized by the Division of Student Activities (DoSA) and the Table Tennis Club, was held at the newly-built Table Tennis Arena of IUB located in the basement of the DMK Building on June 8, 2023. Md. Nasir Uddin, Maria M. Monon and Zishan Ansari clinched the runner-up positions in the three categories respectively.
Champions Rifat, Masuda and Zubair are from the Departments of Media and Communication, Computer Science and Engineering and International Business respectively, Runners-up Nasir, Maria and Zishan are from the Departments of Environmental Science and Management, Accounting and Finance.
The participants were divided into different categories including Men's Single (seeded), Unseeded Women’s Singles and Unseeded Men’s Singles. In addition to giving the nationally ranked players of IUB much needed match practice, the main aim of the tournament was to hunt fresh talents from among the existing students, especially the newest cohorts. A total of 58 students, including 9 female players, took part in the tournament.
“Interest for Table Tennis took a dramatic turn in 2022 after IUB students won a whopping 5 gold medals in the Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Championship. We wanted to build on that spike of interest in the sport and also continue the momentum to find more talents so that we can do better results in future national-level tournaments,” said Atif Md. Safi, Head of DoSA.
Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, visited the Table Tennis Arena during the tournament, enjoyed a few games and also exchanged greetings with the players and coaches.
