IUB hosts Webinar on Iran Bangladesh: Taking Stocks

IUB hosted a webinar titled "Iran and Bangladesh Exchanges: Taking Stock" on July 21, 2023. The event, organized by the Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies (CBoBS) and the Global Studies and Governance Department of the Independent University, Bangladesh, in collaboration with the Governance and Policy Think Tank at Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran. The webinar focused on assessing the context and governance structure of Iran and Bangladesh, as well as their potential for collaboration and exchange between universities.

The webinar began with a welcome address from Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, the Pro Vice Chancellor of Independent University, Bangladesh, and opening remarks by Dr. Marufa Akhter, the head of the Global Studies and Governance Department. The session was moderated by Dr. Shanawez Hossain, Assistant Professor of Global Studies and Governance.

The respective Ambassadors of Bangladesh and Iran, H.E. Mr. Mansour Chavoshi and H.E. Mr. Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, delivered introductory remarks, setting the tone for the discussions that followed.

Professor Dr. Sayed Emamian, Co-founder and senior advisor of the Governance Policy Think Tank and Assistant Professor at AmirKabir University of Technology, delivered the keynote presentation on Iran's governance structure. Ambassador Tariq A Karim, the director of the Centre for Bay of Bengal Studies at IUB and a former Ambassador of Iran, provided insights and reflected on the cultural and religious ties between the two countries.

The discussions and outcomes of the webinar will guide efforts to foster collaborative relationships and provide students with opportunities to learn from international policy experts, analysts, and researchers. Professor Imtiaz A Hussain from the Global Studies and Governance Department expressed gratitude to the organizers and participants, concluding the event with his remarks and vote of thanks. IUB's webinar on Iran and Bangladesh Exchanges: Taking Stock offered students a valuable opportunity to learn about the governance structures of both countries and their potential for collaboration.
