Founded in 1993, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) is one of the oldest and leading private universities in Bangladesh where academic excellence is a tradition, teaching a passion and lifelong learning a habit. IUB currently has more than 9,800 undergraduate and graduate students and over 13,700 alumni. The students of IUB experience an exciting academic life with copious opportunities to explore and nurture their innate talent.
Live in Field Experience (LFE) is a signature course of IUB. It allows IUB students, most of whom come from urban settings, to have an immersive experience of everyday life in rural Bangladesh. Unique in Bangladesh, the overarching idea, which owes its roots to some of the leading social thinkers of this region, is to bridge the gap in knowledge that an urban student has about their rural counterparts. As part of the LFE, which is a mandatory course, small groups of students (usually 5-10, mix of male and female, and English and Bangla medium backgrounds) spend a certain amount of time at different locations in Bangladesh and experience life in the fields.

13/05/2024
The IUB Computer Science and Engineering student team, "Fabbers AFK Hoonigan," emerged victorious at the RoboCup Championship organized by Dhaka University Engineering Technology (DUET) at the Gazipur campus on July 14, 2023. Team "Black Saber," from Shahid Suhrawardy College secured the second place while "RoboBot v3" from AUST secured the third place.
"Fabbers AFK Hoonigan" displayed an innovative approach to building and executing combat-like soccer using their robot. The primary objective of the bot was to strategically ramp off opponents in the arena to maximize goal points.
Operating on 24 volts, the robot demonstrated immense power and precision during the matches. Additionally, the team highlighted the versatility of their skills by presenting a promising industrial application – an unmanned remote-controlled heavy-duty cargo lift. The entire fabrication process of the robot was exclusively conducted at FabLab IUB.
Team leader Sheikh Samanja Anwar expressed his gratitude and credited the team's victory to their innovative approach to designing and constructing the robot.
In addition to the winning team, another robotics team from IUB, "IUB Nuclear Hell," made an impressive debut at the competition. Despite being newcomers, they lasted until the first qualifier in their debut match.
The DUET RoboCup Championship, an annual signature event hosted by DUET Robotics Society, offered a series of thrilling challenges, including Line Rider, Earthquake Rescue Robot, Idea & Project Exhibition, and ICT Olympiad. The winning teams shared a total prize money of BDT 2,40,000.
