Founded in 1993, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) is one of the oldest and leading private universities in Bangladesh where academic excellence is a tradition, teaching a passion and lifelong learning a habit. IUB currently has more than 9,800 undergraduate and graduate students and over 13,700 alumni. The students of IUB experience an exciting academic life with copious opportunities to explore and nurture their innate talent.
Live in Field Experience (LFE) is a signature course of IUB. It allows IUB students, most of whom come from urban settings, to have an immersive experience of everyday life in rural Bangladesh. Unique in Bangladesh, the overarching idea, which owes its roots to some of the leading social thinkers of this region, is to bridge the gap in knowledge that an urban student has about their rural counterparts. As part of the LFE, which is a mandatory course, small groups of students (usually 5-10, mix of male and female, and English and Bangla medium backgrounds) spend a certain amount of time at different locations in Bangladesh and experience life in the fields.
IUB raises Dengue awareness in Bashundhara Residential Area
14/05/2024
In a proactive move to combat Dengue fever, the School of Pharmacy and Public Health at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a significant procession in the Bashundhara Residential Area on Sunday, August 13, 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness within the local community about the risks of Dengue and the preventive measures that can be taken.
The procession marked just one segment of a comprehensive day-long initiative. The activities encompassed a range of measures to curb mosquito populations and inform the public. These efforts included the strategic use of foggers and sprays to apply mosquito-killing solutions in bushes, drains, and stagnant water – known breeding grounds for disease-carrying mosquitoes.
IUB students played an integral role by engaging with the community directly. They distributed informative leaflets to pedestrians and residents in the area, highlighting essential guidelines and precautions to prevent Dengue infection. This grassroots approach aimed to ensure that residents were well-informed about the dos and don'ts related to Dengue fever.
The procession received notable support from IUB's top leadership. Vice Chancellor Tanweer Hasan, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmed Khan, PhD, and Treasurer Mr. Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider actively participated alongside students, faculty members, and staff. Their collective presence demonstrated a united commitment towards safeguarding the community's health.
The initiative underscores IUB's dedication to community welfare and its proactive role in preventing public health threats. By fostering awareness and taking tangible actions, the university aims to minimize the impact of Dengue fever and create a safer living environment for everyone involved.
