Founded in 1993, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) is one of the oldest and leading private universities in Bangladesh where academic excellence is a tradition, teaching a passion and lifelong learning a habit. Live in Field Experience (LFE) is a signature course of IUB. It allows IUB students, most of whom come from urban settings, to have an immersive experience of everyday life in rural Bangladesh. Unique in Bangladesh, the overarching idea, which owes its roots to some of the leading social thinkers of this region, is to bridge the gap in knowledge that an urban student has about their rural counterparts. As part of the LFE, which is a mandatory course, small groups of students (usually 5-10, mix of male and female, and English and Bangla medium backgrounds) spend a certain amount of time at different locations in Bangladesh and experience life in the fields.

In a bid to equip students with vital career skills, Ambreen Hassan Serker, the co-founder and CEO of Ikigai HR Services Limited, lent her expertise in a CV writing workshop held on Thursday, August 10. Organized by the Career Guidance Placement and Alumni Relations (CGP & AR) in collaboration with the Department of English & Modern Languages at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB), the virtual session aimed to empower students with effective CV writing techniques.
A distinguished alumna of both IUB's School of Business & Entrepreneurship and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London, Ms. Serker's profound industry insights and background in Human Resources underscored her position as a trusted mentor in this context. Drawing on her experience in reviewing countless CVs, she translated her knowledge into accessible strategies tailored to aid fresh graduates in securing their desired employment.
During the workshop, Ms. Serker delved into various aspects of CV construction. She shed light on effective research strategies for job opportunities, elucidated different CV formats, emphasized the significance of proper formatting, and highlighted the power of choosing the right words to captivate potential employers. The session was not only informative but also interactive, as students actively engaged with Ms. Serker during a Q&A session that further enriched the workshop's content.
The collaboration between IUB's CGP & AR and the Department of English & Modern Languages, along with the participation of Ms. Serker, provided students with a valuable opportunity to refine their career-building skills.
