IUB Esports Club hosts Collegiate Esports Championship 2023

The IUB Esports Club, in collaboration with Bangladesh Youth Development & Electronic Sports Association (BYDESA), recently wrapped up the Collegiate Esports Championship 2023. This year's event was a glowing representation of the rising popularity of esports within Bangladesh's educational arena.

Held between July 15 and August 13, 2023, the championship saw participation from over 800 students representing more than 180 educational institutions. The statistics break down to an impressive 62 schools and 65 colleges, proving the vast reach and appeal of esports among students from varying academic backgrounds.

Arefa Parvin Taposhe, the President of BYDESA, expressed her exhilaration, remarking, “The Collegiate Esports Championship 2023 surpassed even our highest expectations. Not only did it demonstrate the expansive passion for esports across diverse educational backgrounds, but it also underscored the potential of esports as a unifying and inclusive force in Bangladesh. From our impressive participation numbers to the massive digital engagement, the outcomes clearly indicate that we've tapped into something extraordinary. This championship has set new benchmarks and given us invaluable insights for the future."

Popular gaming titles like eFootball (both PC and mobile), League of Legends (LoL), DOTA 2, Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB), and Valorant took center stage. In a trailblazing move aimed at inclusivity, the organizers rolled out specific segments within MLBB and Valorant dedicated solely to female gamers. One of the tournament's highlights was tenth-grader "Pes Aminul" clinching the eFootball Mobile champion title, quickly rising as a prodigious sensation.

Toffee, Banglalink's premier digital entertainment application, played a pivotal role by streaming critical matches, starting from the eFootball Quarterfinals to the finals of LoL & DOTA. According to Toffee's data, a staggering 4.5 Lac users accessed the streaming platform to witness the championships unfold.

Sanzar Adnan Alam, Faculty Advisor of the IUB Esports Club, expressed his gratification, stating, "We are immensely proud of the championship's success. It not only showcases the untapped potential of esports in Bangladesh but also paves the way for bigger, more inclusive initiatives in the future.
