Five IUB faculties receive UK grant for Climate Finance Research

Five faculty members of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have received a grant from the Center for Sustainable Finance at SOAS University of London, UK. The grant has been awarded to a team of scholars from IUB's School of Business and Entrepreneurship (SBE) and the School of Environment and Life Sciences (SELS). This fund is intended for two case study ideas that will advance the financing of adaptation to climate change and the inclusion of the topic materials as master’s course curriculums.

The faculty members are: Prof. Dr. Meherun Ahmed, Dean, SBE; Prof. Dr. Mizan R Khan, from the Department of Environmental Science and Management (DESM) and Deputy Director of the International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD); Dr. Taslim Uddin, Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance; Md. Ekhtekharul Islam, Senior Lecturer in DESM; and Zaima Ahmed, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance.

The first proposal, titled "Catalyzing Change: Financing Transformative Adaptation to Improve Flood Resilience in Bangladesh," aims to investigate financial methods to improve Bangladesh's flood resistance. The second proposal, "Evaluating the Effectiveness of Integration of Climate Budgeting and Allocation in Bangladesh," focuses on assessing the impact of climate budgeting and allocation integration in the country.

This fund is provided as a part of the "University Network for Strengthening Macro-financial Resilience to Climate and Environmental Change" program, which is run by the Center for Sustainable Finance at SOAS University of London. With a focus on Bangladesh in particular, the program attempts to provide financing structures to support climate adaptation activities in climate-vulnerable regions.
