Nushrat Afroz Roza, a promising undergraduate student from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has embarked on a year-long research exchange program in Japan. This prestigious opportunity, "Student Study Abroad for Research," is made possible through the generous support of a Japanese government scholarship.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between IUB's School of Engineering, Technology and Science (SETS) and the Graduate School of Engineering at the University of Hyogo in Japan, Nushrat was chosen to represent IUB in this academic exchange program. This initiative aims to foster academic and research collaboration between the two institutions and strengthen the relationship between Dhaka and Hyogo Prefecture.

Nushrat's journey is a testament to her outstanding academic performance, determination, strong communication skills, and her critical thinking abilities. Her selection for this exchange program was based on her impressive CGPA of 3.88 at the time of application.

On September 2, 2023, Nushrat safely arrived in Japan and was warmly welcomed at the Advanced Medical Engineering Research Institute, University of Hyogo, Japan, led by Professor Dr. Syoji Kobashi whose unwavering support has been instrumental in making this endeavor possible.

Nushrat is already deeply immersed in her research work, focusing on medical image processing, with a specific emphasis on developing AI-based computer-aided diagnostic systems.

Nushrat's responsibilities under the exchange program encompass diverse aspects of academic engagement. She is not only contributing to ongoing research but is also actively participating in teaching, joint research, academic training, and capacity-building activities. Additionally, seminars, workshops, symposia, and colloquia on shared interests will be organized, further facilitating mutual growth.

One of the key objectives of the exchange program is cultural exchange, and Nushrat is wholeheartedly embracing this aspect of her journey. She is committed to immersing herself in the Japanese way of life, which includes learning the language and addressing everyday challenges like grocery sourcing and managing halal food preferences. Her enthusiasm to understand and appreciate Japanese culture is a testament to her curiosity and adaptability.

The partnership between IUB and the University of Hyogo, as outlined in the MoU, is currently being managed by Dr. Saadia Binte Alam, Associate Professor, department of CSE at IUB, who is the initiator of this MoU and also serves as Nushrat's Co-Supervisor for her research work. Her dedication and leadership have been instrumental in making this exchange program a reality.

The academic collaboration between these two institutions is set to continue for a minimum of five years, starting on April 1, 2023. We believe that with this program students will have the opportunity to explore cutting edge research facilities.
